Nazi Shamanauri

Nazi Shamanauri has been treated severely in the hospital for mental diseases for five months. In January of 1983 a roped journalist was beaten to death.

The name of the person who was guilty in her death is still unknown. Her family was persecuted. Nazi was deemed to be an undesirable element within the literary and journalistic circles. On June 7, 1974 she published her last letter in “The Village Life”. For this reason, every editorial office of the regional and republic newspapers were closed for her.

On August 14, 1982 N. Shamanauri made a speech at the holiday of Vazhaoba. She exposed the criminal cases which had been committed by the officials of the Dusheti Region. She and her mother – Sara Inashvili were arrested at once.

Nazi Shamanauri was not a dissident. She was not of anti-Soviet inclination. She only exposed the fallacious facts that had happened in Georgia.

According to the regional court, Nazi and her mother were sent to the Asatiani Mental Hospital. In protest, Nazi Shamanauri refused to eat anything. She was cured with a special medical treatment. The outcome was deplorable. Her illness was diagnosed as skull disease and was sent to the hospital No.9, where she died next day.

Nazi Shamanauri sacrificed herself to the honesty and truth. It was beyond her to put up with the evil and for this reason, she died. She was alone in the struggle against the Soviet authorities.

The life of Nazi Shamanauri is a sample the persons who were against the Soviet authority.
