Kakhi Kavsadze in the Archive
Actor Kakhi Kavsadze paid a visit to LEPL Archive of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. As the Archive is now open, he had the opportunity to study the case of his father,
David Kavsadze, whose case had been “Top Secret” for years.
Singer and bandmaster David Kavsadze was called to the Great Patriotic War (Second World War) in 1941. He was captured while serving in Jaeger Battalion №224 of the Red Army.
In captivity, he was appointed head of an ethnic chorus, and managed to assist many Georgian prisoners, though he did not fight. During his time in the camp he served in his favorite
capacity - as a singer.
On January 10, 1946, Soviet authorities arrested David Kavsadze and charged him under Article 58-1 (B) - treason committed by a soldier. He was exiled to Sverdlovsk oblast, where he
